Chante Moore

After all that you accomplished, what drives you to continue running?

I keep running because of the thrill that runs through my body after I compete in a race or finish a tough workout. I know i haven't reached my full potential yet and I have a lot more to give to the track and field world.

How do you motivate yourself on days when you don't feel like running?

I motivate myself by thinking "if I sit here and be lazy my competition well get ahead of me". I call my sister and talk to her for a bit and she reminds me every time that I'm a role model for the younger generation and that I have to keep pushing through.

What are the differences in training for a 200 meter race versus a 400 meter race?

I would say as far as the 200 meter training there are shorter sprints involved. For the 400 meter I would say more strength and endurance.

Do you prefer racing individually or on a relay team and why?

I don't have a preference. I love running individually because that way I can focus more on myself and get my game plan together. Relays are always fun to run. I enjoy them because everyone gets to see what happens when you put four dynamite women together to see what they can run.

What does your weight training consist of and which exercise do you feel helps your running the most?

Weight training usually consists of power cleans, hand cleans, core and squats. I would say core definitely helps us the most because if you don't have a strong core then you can't get faster.

What's the weirdest or funniest thing that ever happened to you while running?

The weirdest thing that happened to me while running is during a cross country meet  saw a fox in the woods and I was so terrified to move. I was coming down a hill and I saw the fox who I originally thought was a dog. I stopped in the middle of the race and about seven people stopped behind me because we were nervous to move. I called to the fox to be nice and it happily came over to us waving its tail like a dog. After standing there for about 5 mins I decided to see if I jogged would it follow which it did and he happily followed me until I exited the woods. After that I believe I overcame my fear of wildlife.

What's your favorite types of fuel for running and why?

My favorite type of fuel for running is just peanut butter with honey wheat bread and coconut water with pineapple. I can't run on a full stomach so this usually helps set my stomach. The coconut water has to have pineapple in it or else i can't drink it.

What's your favorite cheat food & drink?

My favorite cheat food is pizza with a Pepsi! Just a regular extra cheese pizza can turn any frown upside down.

Do you listen to music to get ready for a race? If so, what's your favorite song?

If you can't listen to music before you run then are you really focused? I'm a big Soca fan so I have to listen to my Caribbean music before I run. My favorite song is called "Destra VS Lucy" by Destra Garcia. I just feel like I become a different person when I step on the track vs being around friends and family.

Do you like ice baths? Why or why not?

I have a love/hate relationship with ice baths. I love them because they help repair my torn muscles and gets me back to normal. My hardest part is just getting into the ice bath period. I can honestly say it takes me ten minutes just to get my mind right to go in there. I don't think I will ever get used to ice baths.

In your free time when you’re not running, what other hobby’s do you enjoy?

When I'm not running I'm most likely playing my XBOX. I'm definitely a gamer so I'm usually playing games or looking for new games to play.

What's the most important tip you like to give new runners?

My most important tip to new runners is to not set your standards too high. Sometimes when people set their standards too high and don't reach them they usually tend to get discouraged. If you set a reasonable goal to reach things become easier and then you start to think "well I did this so now I bet I can do this" and then you go for it. Just take your time and little by little you'll get to where you want to be.

What is your favorite running accomplishment so far?

My favorite running accomplishment so far is me being able to run for my country Guyana. Throughout my track career I've been an All American and I was also a State Champion, but to be able to put on Guyana's uniform is both an honor and a blessing.
