After all that you accomplished, what drives you to continue running?

Running to me is about self improvement and pushing the boundaries of my own body. Also hoping to make a USA team either for Worlds or Olympics is always a good dream to chase.


How do you motivate yourself on days when you don't feel like running?

Great question. Most of the time when I’m not motivated I will procrastinate and put running off till later at night. My main motivating factor is my amazing girlfriend; she always makes sure I'm on task.


On average, how many times and miles do you run a month?

I usually run everyday, so around 300 to 350 miles a month but I am very in tuned to my bodies needs so some days I'll go for a short run or a day off here and there.


What's the weirdest or funniest thing that ever happened to you while running?

I have been doing this a while so there are many memories but most recently I was running down a bike path and scared one of those lizards that run real tall. It ran right into my legs and kind of hung on for a few seconds before I shook him off.


What are your favorite types of fuel for running and why?

For everyday runs I do not really think too much about what I eat. However on race day I am very particular in what I do. For morning races I'll go with steal cut oatmeal with some fruit and water and NUUN. If the race is later in the day or night I'm all about PB&J. It has to have grape jelly with natural peanut butter.


What's your favorite cheat food & drink?

I love chipotle if that counts but if not ice cream is a must in my house. Growing up I would spend weekends with my father and he never allowed us to drink soda so when I was with my mom on weekdays I was always drinking root beer or Coke. Not so much these days!


Do you like ice baths? Why or why not?

Ice baths; no one likes them do they? In college we used them every day, through more research I have actually learned that you should only do them when you have multiple hard efforts, like back to back races or short recovery time. I'm good for 3 to 5 a month and it seems to work.


What's the most important tip you like to give new runners?

CONSISTENCY! It is key to improvement. It's better to run 3 miles everyday to hit 21 miles then to run two 10.5 mile days a week.


What is your favorite running accomplishment so far?

I am not exactly the most decorated runner out there but I think winning my first college conference title will always be special to me. Post college would be getting 4th and top American in the Naples Daily News half in my second half marathon in 1:07.
