After all that you accomplished, what drives you to continue running?

I continue to run because I love the sport. After so many injuries I want to end on my own terms and not because of an accident.

How do you motivate yourself on days when you don't feel like running?

I always have to remember that there are people who would love to be in my spot. Once I get over the fact that I am up super early, I love training.

On average, how many times and miles do you run a month?

We sprint a lot in practice. The most I run is 45 seconds on grass at my own pace. It's all about technique. If I don’t do it right coach screams at me.

What's the weirdest or funniest thing that ever happened to you while running?

High school nationals in North Carolina in 2000. I tripped over the banner at the finish line after winning and right after the race they played the Bonk commercial. Only my age group would understand that.

What are your favorite types of fuel for running and why?

I am a big fan of Pedialyte and Genethix. I never took supplements until this year and we are figuring out what makes my stomach hurt and what doesn't. I have a bunch of food allergies so I have to be very careful. Also, trash talking is a big part of my fuel. Nothing gets me more excited then someone who enjoys my playfulness and can take it and dish it.

What's your favorite cheat food & drink?

Founders favorite at ColdStone. Deep fried turkey. Cherry limeade from Sonic, cream soda and root beer.

Do you like ice baths? Why or why not?

Ice baths are great but I'm allergic to ice. I swell up and break out in hives really bad if it's too cold. I have to train my body to withstand the cold up to 4 minutes. I don't usually get in much longer than that. Recently I have been getting in the swimming pool instead and it has worked just as well for me.

What's the most important tip you like to give new runners?

You have to be very determined to be a runner because it's an individual sport. It’s going to hurt and be hard but at the end of the day you will see improvements. You will build confidence. You will become a better you. So stick with it and have as much fun traveling and meeting new people. You never know who the next Olympian will be.

What is your favorite running accomplishment so far?

I think my 10.85 in 2008 was a big deal for me but I still feel I have more in the tank. I just haven’t figured it out yet.
