Being an ultra-runner and living in South Florida, I go through fluids often during runs. I'm always looking for options that taste delicious, sit well with my stomach, and most importantly, work! I've used tablets by other brands before and had mixed reviews for different reasons so I was curious to try these out and compare the results.
One of the first things I judge products like this on is taste. If you know me, I'm always honest about this as flavor is huge to me. First I tried the Lemon Lime flavor. I was concerned because at first it tasted disgusting to me. The more I sipped it, I eventually got used to it but wasn't a fan of it. Next, I tried the Orange Strawberry flavor and it was definitely better. Although it still tasted a little funny to my taste buds, I didn't mind it. My third flavor was Tropical Punch and it was about the same. The last flavor I tried was Mixed Berry and it was pretty good. If I had to rank them based on flavor, I would choose Orange Strawberry and Mixed Berry first equally, then Tropical Punch. I don't know if I'd want to finish the Lemon Lime, unless I mixed it with another flavor. In the end, I understand the lack of flavor is typically better for you because that means it's more natural so I don't count that as a negative. I just really like lots of flavor so I always prepare myself mentally before trying new things.
All four flavors sat well with my stomach and didn't cause any issues. I only used them before and after my runs. The reason I didn't use them during my runs is because the sloshing around inside the handheld bottle causes it to bloat to the point of possible explosion. I've had this same problem with other brands tablets so I tested it in my house before getting in the middle of a run only to discover this would be a problem again. You could get around this by shaking it up and eventually making it flat so that it doesn't do it as much but I'd rather not have to do that so I just stuck to using it before and after my runs.
Now, to the factor that really matters the most; the results. I always say that these types of products can taste amazing and be a pleasure to consume, but not work or benefit you at all. In that case, what's the point of using them, right? I definitely noticed myself less thirsty when drinking these. I felt like they were successful in rehydrating me and keeping me hydrated longer. For this reason I would definitely keep using them since hydration between runs/workouts is just as important as during them. I have a health-conscience friend that told me how much she loves these when she saw that I was trying them. This confirms that this is a great option to try and possibly add to your daily fluid consumption.
